upstreamNet achieves A rating at the
NIS2 Readiness Check
upstreamNet offers security at the highest level and achieved an A rating in the NIS2 Readiness Check by the certifier condignum GmbH. This underlines our commitment to reliable protection and compliance.
Guaranteed high availability
Internationally redundant connections from a single source
In the modern age, availability is a key factor in the success or failure of companies. According to studies in the United States, 90% of companies do not recover economically if they do not have their "usual" access to the Internet for more than two days.
Redundant connections from Vienna to Frankfurt and Vienna to Paris ensure that customers in Austria do not have to fear any service disruptions even in the event of a connection failure. upstreamNet guarantees full redundancy for the IP bandwidth consumed by customers.

Future-proof technologies
In a networked world, it is crucial to stay technologically up to date. With upstreamNet, you benefit from a global network based on secure protocols and stable technologies.
BGP protocol (Border Gateway Protocol)
This protocol ensures that data packets on the Internet take the optimal route to reach their destination quickly and reliably. At upstreamNet, it is used to route dynamically and efficiently between networks so that your data traffic remains stable and secure at all times.
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)
TCP/IP is the basis for all Internet traffic. It ensures that data is transmitted correctly and arrives safely at its destination by standardizing communication between networks. With upstreamNet, TCP/IP ensures smooth and reliable data transmission in your network.
AS8218 and AS6461
These autonomous systems (AS) form the core of upstreamNet's global connectivity. AS8218 provides high-availability connectivity for enterprises, while AS6461 provides international reach and access to worldwide networks.

IP-Transit includes
summarized:
- Customer handover port: 1 Gbit Ethernet / 10 Gbit Ethernet (100 Gigabit possible)
- IP addresses from the AS8218 address range
- DNS Server
- Customer access to APAMS for equipment and bandwidth monitoring
- Network Operation Center: 24 hours, 365 days a year as technical support
The international network AS8218 & AS6461- Facts and figures:
- More than 1 terrabit of European traffic IP transit
- More than 600 gigabits of transatlantic capacity
- More than 800 peerings and 200 operators worldwide
- In addition to IPv4 & IPv6, also MPLS at the most important peering locations
- Our most important peering exchanges: Frankfurt, Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Vienna, Zurich, Madrid, Tokyo, New York, Palo Alto, Chicago, Ashburn

Transparent cost control
Keep full control of your network costs - with upstreamNet you only pay for what you actually use.
- 95% model: This billing model means that only 95% of the actual bandwidth consumption is charged, so that short-term peaks are not included in your costs.
- Average consumption: Alternatively, you can opt for billing based on average consumption, which offers you maximum flexibility.
- MRTG (Multi Router Traffic Grapher): MRTG enables real-time monitoring of your bandwidth consumption. It visualizes the traffic and shows precise statistics so that you always have an overview of your network utilization. This allows you to plan and optimize your resources efficiently.
With upstreamNet you are safe
Our Network Operation Center (NOC) is active 365 days a year. Whether routine or emergencies - we ensure that your Network without failures running.
With the help of Arbor TMS Mitigation, an advanced technology to defend against DDoS attacks, we proactively protect your network. This means that harmful traffic is detected and blocked before it reaches your system.
Fast responses and our proactive service ensure that disruptions are avoided. We offer you 99.99% availability thanks to stable technology and redundant connections. Your security and availability is our top priority.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions & answers
What is AS8218 and what advantages does it offer?
AS8218 is the autonomous system (AS) of upstreamNet with our French partner and part of an international network with a focus on Western and Central Europe. It enables highly available connections and stable data transmission between different regions and networks.
What is AS6461 and how does it complement AS8218?
AS6461 is another autonomous system that focuses its activities primarily on North America and Western Europe. The focus is also on the expansion of bandwidths and metro networks. While AS8218 has been established in Western and Central Europe for decades, AS6461 offers additional reach and stability for connections outside Europe. This combination offers enormous opportunities for our customers.
What is the Vienna Internet Exchange (VIX)?
The Vienna Internet Exchange (VIX) is one of the central Internet hubs in Vienna where Internet providers and networks can exchange data directly with each other. A connection to the VIX means lower latency times, higher speeds and better stability, as the data traffic does not have to be routed via several intermediate stations. upstreamNet is directly connected to all three VIX nodes, ensuring fast and reliable connections.
Why is a connection to peering locations such as VIX important?
Peering describes the direct exchange of data traffic between two networks without the involvement of a third-party provider. At peering locations such as the VIX, these connections are optimized, resulting in lower latency times, higher speeds and a better user experience.
How does upstreamNet guarantee high bandwidths?
Redundant dark fiber rings in Vienna, path-redundant international connections of the various VIX nodes to Frankfurt and Paris, but above all the fact that capacities are kept available to compensate for service outages or disruptions ensure that customers receive the quality they expect from upstreamNet in the area of IP connectivity. The individual concept for each customer optimizes the price/performance ratio. During operation, the local NOC and the expertise of the backbone administrators in Paris - where DDoS is also mitigated - work together to ensure that customers are supported around the clock. Especially in times of DDoS attacks and increasing cybercrime.
What is dark fiber?
Dark fiber refers to unused fiber optic lines that companies can use exclusively. They enable dedicated, highly secure and extremely fast data transmission without multiple users having to share the bandwidth. At upstreamNet, dark fiber connects the RDC and ODC21 for maximum stability and high availability.
What is the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and how does it work?
The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is a routing protocol that ensures that data packets are routed via the best available route between networks. With upstreamNet, BGP enables dynamic switching to alternative routes in the event of a fault if configured accordingly, ensuring reliability and therefore availability.
How does BGP differ from TCP/IP? And why does BGP offer more security than conventional solutions?
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is the basic protocol for data transmission on the Internet, but is static in terms of route selection. If a connection fails, data cannot be automatically rerouted, which leads to interruptions. BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) offers more security and flexibility here: it analyzes data traffic in real time and automatically switches to alternative routes if a connection fails. This ensures continuous availability without failures.
Why use upstreamNet to enter the global worlds of the world-wide-web?
At upstreamNet, BGP is supplemented by additional measures such as Arbor TMS Mitigation, which can filter harmful data traffic such as DDoS attacks at an international level. In combination with the autonomous AS8218 and AS6461 systems, the direct connection to nodes such as the Vienna Internet Exchange (VIX, Digital Realty, NTT) and the resulting "free" capacities to Frankfurt and Paris, upstreamNet offers significantly more service security and protection than comparable national providers. The potential and possibilities of a leading global provider network (AS6461), an established Western and Central European player (AS8218) paired with customer-oriented technicians and access via direct contact persons of an Austrian GmbH is our unique selling point.
