March 1999
Founding of AboveNet Communications GmbH, an Austrian subsidiary of AboveNet Communications Inc., one of the world's largest internet network and data center operators. The company is founded by a joint venture with the Raiffeisen Rechenzentrums GmbH.
March 2000
Metromedia Fiber Network (MFN) acquires AboveNet Communications Inc. with all its subsidiaries. In the course of this transaction, MFN also acquires the shares of Raiffeisen from the joint venture and AboveNet Austria is integrated into the Group as a whole.
March 2004
The Austrian subsidiary will be sold via a management buy-out as part of the restructuring of the AboveNet Inc. division. Andreas Welleditsch, former General Manager of AboveNet Austria and now Managing Partner, will take over the management of the company.
October 2004
AboveNet Communications GmbH now operates under the name upstreamNet Communications GmbH. As a Tier 2 provider (according to Wikipedia, "operator of large, important, supra-regional networks"), the company will continue to provide customers in the new operator network "AS8218" with highly available services in the usual quality.
November 2010
Following changes in the ownership structure, the portfolio in the new group of companies has been expanded to include infrastructure solutions, managed services, applications and qualified consulting services. upstreamNet is an independent, Austrian company in management ownership.
March 2013
The possibilities in the area of colocation are expanded by adding an additional data center area in the on demand center (ODC21). This means that a further 200 square meters of data center space is now available, which can be adapted to individual customer requirements. Integration into the company's own dark fiber backbone opens up new solutions in terms of high availability and site redundancy from a single source.
May 2021
The Raiffeisen Datacenter Stadlau (1220 Vienna) was moved into as another data centre location, where the company provides bank-certified housing and IP connectivity with redundant connection to the AS8218 backbone for its customers. In one of the most modern data center locations in Austria, the quality of the services is the top priority, which can be ensured around the clock at affordable prices with an included NOC on site.
January 2023
Now upstreamNet is also represented at the NTT e-Shelter site (1100 Vienna) - as in the InterXion (now Digital Realty), we can provide up to 100 Gbit international connection in AS6461.
