What is behind NIS2?
NIS2 (Network and Information Security Directive 2) is the new EU directive to improve cyber security in critical and important sectors. It expands the previous requirements of the existing NIS Directive for companies that provide essential IT services - including telecommunications, cloud services and data centers. The aim is to better defend against cyber attacks, minimize IT outages and oblige companies to implement stricter security measures.
Affected companies must:
- Strengthen IT security measures and identify vulnerabilities at an early stage
- Report cyberattacks within 24 hours and provide detailed reports
- Create and regularly test contingency plans for IT security incidents
- Secure network connections through the use of encryption and multi-factor authentication
- Avoid high penalties, which can amount to up to 10 million euros or 2 % of annual turnover
NIS2 security requirements
- Strengthen risk management in order to assess and reduce threats
- Implement strict access controls to prevent unauthorized access
- Secure data with modern encryption to ensure confidentiality
- Increase protection of sensitive information to comply with data protection regulations
- Report security incidents within 24 hours to enable rapid response
With NIS2, IT security will also become an obligation for the supply chain and no longer an option - with upstreamNet as your partner, you too can take a step towards NIS2 readiness.
Why is NIS2 crucial for companies?
Cyber attacks and IT failures can cause immense economic damage. The NIS2 directive ensures that companies proactively implement security measures to prevent data loss and system failures.
